The Reason Why Police Force PPRO Moshood Jimoh Was Promoted Again
The
Nigeria Police Force' Public Relations Officer (FPPRO) Moshood Jimoh
has been appointed as acting Deputy Commissioner (DCP) in charge of the
department.
His appointment in acting capacity, which was
recommended by the Inspector-General (IGP) Ibrahim Idris and approved by
the Police Service Commission (PSC) was done to fill the vacancy that
has existed in the department.
The office of the FPPRO, it was
gathered, was supposed to be occupied by an officer in the rank of a
Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Since the promotion of Jimoh's
predecessor, Don Awunah to Commissioner of Police and subsequent
redeployment, the police public relations department has not been at par
with those of other security agencies, who had higher ranking officers
as head.
To bridge the gap, the police high command yesterday approved Jimoh's promotion in acting capacity.
Commending
the IGP for the elevation, a senior officer said: "Check the ranks of
those heading the public relations departments of all government
security agencies in the country and you will see that they are officers
whose ranks are equivalent to Commissioners or Deputy Commissioners.
"The
Nigerian Army has a Brigadier General as Director Public Relations; for
the navy, it's a Commodore and Air Force public relations department is
headed by an Air Vice Marshal (two-star General).
"Then, the
Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has a Deputy Comptroller as head of the
unit and same with the Nigerian Immigration and Prison Services, while
the Federal Road Safety Commissioner's head of public relations is a
Corps Commander. I see nothing wrong with Jimoh's elevation."
