ICPC arraigns Fraudster in Lagos
The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence. He was said to have collected money on the pretext of supplying 30 bags of poultry feeds, 15 crates of eggs, 10 points of lay birds, and a carton of broilers to the woman, which offence is contrary to Section 1(1(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006. The accused person, who committed the offence in March 2017, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
However, the defence counsel, Ade Mabadeje, quickly informed the court that a bail application had been filed on behalf of the defendant, while the prosecuting counsel, Yvonne William-Mbata did not raise any objection to the application.
Justice Solebo, therefore, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100,000.00 and a surety in like sum. He added that the surety must be resident and working in Lagos, in addition to providing evidence of three years tax payment. The case was adjourned to 21st May 2018 for trial.
