A self-acclaimed 200 level Computer Science student of Caleb University identified as Gideon Bamidele Moshood and his sidekick also identified as Hafeez Anifowoshe alias Smallie aged 20, have been arrested in Lagos for armed robbery.  The duo sources said were arrested after a botched attempt to snatch an Uber taxi at gunpoint. The Commissioner of Police CP Imohimi Edgal who paraded the suspects Monday at the Police Command Headqaurters Ikeja said both Gideon and Hafeez had boarded the Uber taxi in Surulere at about 4.00am en-route Agric in Ikorodu but half way into the journey, Gideon pulled a pistol which was later discovered to be a toy gun, grabbed the Uber driver by the neck with a view to making him surrender his vehicle. It was told that while the driver struggled with the suspected robbers, the vehicle skidded off the road and somersaulted severally before gridding to a halt. Policemen at a nearby pin-down-point who raced to the scene became curious after spotting two persons who apparently crawled out of the accident car took to their heels. Sources hinted further that it was the squeal of “help, help, armed robbers, armed robbers” from the badly damaged car that prompted the Police to give the fleeing suspects a hot chase following which they were arrested. The driver whose name could not be ascertained as of the time of this report was later rescued and taken together with his car and the two suspects to the station for interrogatio. Briefing newsmen, CP Edgal said the incident happened on May 21, 2018 at about 0054hrs adding, “The were caught red handed attempting to snatch a Toyota Corolla car with registration No. KJA 911 EG property of one Mr. Otun Olugbenga, near Itowolo bridge with a toy pistol. It must be noted that the suspects entered the vehicle from Surulere enroute to Agric; however, on getting near Itowolo bridge, the one called Gideon while armed with a toy pistol, grabbed the driver by the neck thus the driver lost control of the car, hit the kerb and the vehicle somersaulted. The driver raised alarm which attracted the Policemen at the pin down to the scene. The chased after the robbers and arrested them while the vehicle was recovered. Both men would be charged for armed robbery as soon as the case is over.”
But betraying emotions, Gideon who confessed to the crime however, blamed his politician father for his woes adding that he could not have been involved in crime if his parents cared for him. He said that his mother who would have offset his school fees had traveled to the UK while his local government chairman father left him to his fate; leaving him with no option than to go into crime to raise money to pay his school fees. Fighting tears Gideon said, “My father is the cause of all these, he abandoned me. He refused to pay for my school fees not because he does not have the money but because he said I am wayward.  Immediately my mum travelled to UK, he said he was no longer interested in my schooling anymore because there was one day he caught me smoking and concluded that he would no longer waste his money on me anymore. He is the Chairman of Surulere Local Government Area, so he cannot say he does not have money. Truly, our aim was to snatch the vehicle and sell it so that I can use my share of the loot to settle my school fees. Let me give you my dad’s GSM number (gives it) so that you can call him, let him come and see me in this situation.” However, when contacted, Mr. Jimoh Moshood who raced to the Command Headquarters denied all the allegations from his son maintaining that he was caring for him as a son contrary to his claims. “Everything he said is a lie, he is simply lying. How can I neglect my own son? I was the one who took him to Caleb University and I was paying his school fees. This boy scaled the fence two days ago to an unknown destination only for me to be called now that he had been arrested for armed robbery. It came to me as a shock. He has just told you a bunch of lies, the claim that his mother is out of Nigeria is a big lie, she is not in any UK. I started noticing his rascality and began to think of withdrawing him from Caleb University to Lagos State Polytechnic so that he will be closer to me for monitoring; so how can such a boy say his father abandoned him,” Jimoh queried.  - www.crimeworld.com.ng
