Bauchi governor pardons 170 prison inmates
The Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar has pardoned
170 prison inmates serving various prison terms in the state on the
prerogative of mercy.
This was disclosed yesterday by the State Commissioner of
Justice, Ibrahim Umar while giving a scorecard of the ministry of
justice in Bauchi.
He said the advisory council on prerogative of mercy
committee during the period under review visited all the prison
formations across the state, where they scrutinised and physically
verified the inmates and selected deserving candidates for scrutiny and
recommendation to the governor.
“The council recommended a total of 170 inmates and the
governor graciously approved the pardoning of the inmates. The pardoned
inmates are now enjoying their freedom with their families, friends
and loved ones,” he said.
He disclosed that the ministry in its bid to support the
Internally Generated Revenue of the state has successfully channeled to
the treasury the sum of N59,497,000 million from vetting of agreement
and sundries from January 2016 to May 19, 2017.-The Authority
