Herdsmen kill 3 in Benue community
About three persons have been killed by herdsmen in Tse-Akaa village, Ugondo Mbamar District of Logo local government area of Benue State.
The incident occurred just days after the State House of Assembly passed the Prohibition of Open Rearing and Grazing of Livestock bill into law.
Trouble started at about 2pm on Sunday when herdsmen moving their cattle away from the area clashed with some villagers. The attackers, who were said to have come from the Taraba axis, through Abaji, Mbamar, Ugondo and emerged at Akaa, shot sporadically at the villagers.
An eyewitness, Margaret Acka, recounted that three persons were killed in the process while several others were injured.
According to her, a few others are missing after they fled to seek refuge at a nearby village.
She said, “Fulani herdsmen were in my father’s house, shooting and killing at will. Three reported dead and others wounded. When will this end?”
The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Moses Yamu confirmed the killings.
He stated that the suspected herdsmen were relocating from the area as a result of the onset of the raining season and a clash with the villagers ensued.
“Three persons were killed in the process but the police immediately mobilised to the area and I can assure you that peace has now been restored there,” he stated.-The Authority
