Lagos High Court lifts injunction on Omoni Oboli's Okafor's Law
Last
week Friday was supposed to have Omoni Oboli’s film, Okafor’s Law
premiered to thousands of guests who gathered at IMAX Cinema, Lekki
Lagos but it didn’t happen anymore when a court injunction obtained by
Raconteur Productions restricted the movie from showing.
There
is now good news for Omoni Oboli’s camp because the injunction was
lifted today, 30, March 2017 by Justice N. Buba of the Federal High
Court, Ikoyi, Lagos. The court lifted the injunction while stating that
the movie should not have been prevented from showing in the first
place since the copyright claim suit is yet to be determined by a
competent court of law. The movie, Okafor’s Law will now be showing
nationwide in all cinemas from Friday, March 31, 2017.
Justice
Ibrahim Buba of a Federal High Court in Lagos had issued an Anton
Piller order, directing the seizure of a film titled Okafor’s Law
directed by Nollywood producer Omoni Oboli.
The
court also issued an interim order, suspending the release and launch
of the film, in any movie theatre or cinema house on March 31, pending
the determination of a motion on notice before the court. The judge
ordered the seizure of all copies, materials, projections or infringing
materials, relating to the subject matter. The orders followed an
exparte application filed by a company, Rancoteur Productions Ltd, on
behalf of a Canada-based script writer, Jude Idada. The plaintiff had
filed the suit through Anthony Idigbe, seeking an order, halting the
premiere and release of Okafor’s Law pending the determination of a
copyright infringement suit filed against Oboli.
Okafor’s
Law stars seasoned actors like Richard Mofe Damijo, Toyin Aimakhu,
Blossom Chukwujekwu, Ken Erics, Yvonne Jegede, Halima Abubakar, Gabriel
Afolayan, Funke Bucknor among other Nollywood stars. - The Authority
