DSS arraigns herdsman for killing butcher in Rivers
Operatives of the Department of State Security Service, Rivers State
command have arrested a Fulani herdsman for allegedly killing a butcher
identified as Bright Iruanya in the State.
Saidu Buba, was said to have killed Iruanya last May with a gun in a bush at Abam, Okirika Local Government Area, Rivers State.
Though the purpose of the alleged crime has not been established, the
DSS, on Friday, arraigned Saidu Buba in court over the alleged murder of
the butcher.
The accused person is facing two counts of conspiracy and murder in suit number PMC/1292c/16.
“That you, Saidu Buba, adult, with others still at large on or about
the 30th day of May 2016, at Abam, Okirika LGA, within the Jurisdiction
of this court, did conspire to commit felony to wit: Murder of Bright
Iruanya and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 516 of the
Command Code Law, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria.
“That you, Saidu Buba, adult, with others still at large on or about
the 30th day of May 2016, at Abam, Okirika LGA, within the Jurisdiction
of this court, did conspire to commit felony to wit: Murder of Bright
Iruanya, by shooting him to death with a gun and thereby committed an
offence contrary to Section 316 and punishable under Section 319 of the
Criminal Code Law, Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria, 1999.”
The accused was not granted bail for lack of jurisdiction.
The trial chief magistrate, Sir Sokari D. Andrew-Jaja, has remanded the
accused person in prison custody and directed that the case file be
sent to the Director of Public Prosecution.
The matter has been adjourned till September 29, 2016 for mention.
